DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD GAME CITADEL 2022

 The king wished to decorate his kingdom with new, hitherto unseen cities, and summoned the best architects from all over. Over the years, they managed to accumulate solid experience and capital, strengthened their reputation, and, of course, each of them believes that only his creation is worthy of the gaze of an outstanding monarch. However, in order to bring a bold idea to life, one talent and ringing coins, unfortunately, are not enough - you will have to enlist the support of influential people. In addition, the king is hot-tempered by nature and does not like to wait. Therefore, the first to show the Lord his city has additional chances to win the royal favor. So who will the august person award with the title of Chief Architect of the Kingdom? Architects begin construction, and on the way to victory, new neighborhoods and allies await them, fierce rivalry, as well as the companions of any bold undertaking - sophisticated intrigues.

 Meet the re-release of the 2000 psychological card game Citadel, where players build a city. The board breathes the fantasy of the Middle Ages and involves a fair amount of bluffing.

WHAT'S NEW IN THE GAME?

 The legendary child of Windrider Games received a new design and was translated into Ukrainian by the Igromag company. If the original game was sustained in the spirit of a medieval Gothic comic with live drawing, although the color palette was not limited, then the re-release with its soft, saturated colors and play style of the characters is closer to RPG fantasy.

 The re-release includes characters from the original Citadels, the Dark City expansion, and 10 new characters. As a result, the Kingdom has become more human: instead of the 8 character cards from the original game, we have 27 cards, 3 for each rank.

QUEEN OF BLACKMAIL

 Characters also have tokens that allow them to use their abilities. For example, a Blackmailer, starting his turn, can hand two players face-down threat tokens.

 One of them shows an ordinary handkerchief, the other one shows a handkerchief with a rose. As you know, the thorns of a rose can injure no worse than swords and spears; it is this token that hides the real threat. Players can redeem themselves from the perceived threat by giving away half of their capital... Also in the game you will find 30 blocks, 12 of which are new.

SIX SCENARIOS FOR YOUR INTRIGUE

 To make the game more exciting and atmospheric, you can use 6 ready-made combinations of characters and quarters:

• "Ambitions of Aristocrats"
• "Backstage intrigues"
• "Secret Glory"
• "Treachery of the Great"
• "Difficult negotiations"
• "Without conscience"

BEFORE THE GAME STARTS

 8 character tokens are placed on the table in ascending order of numbers. The cards of the basic and special quarters are mixed, all players take 4 cards into their hand. The remaining cards form a deck of quarters, which is placed face down in the center of the table. Coin tokens are located nearby. Each participant takes 2 coins. The oldest player receives a crown and a deck of 8 character cards.

GAME PROCESS

 In general, "Citadels" are played in the same way as the classic edition. Minor changes affected options for 3 people. The goal of the game is to build a city and score as many points as possible. At the beginning of a round, players choose heroes. The crowned player shuffles the deck of characters, puts several (depending on the number of players) vodka cards and one face down in the center of the table. These cards are discarded and do not take part in the round. If there is a King, Patrician or Emperor among the open cards, then as a sign of respect for the monarchs, the discarded card is returned to the deck, and another is placed in the center of the vodka table instead.

 The crowned player examines the character deck, secretly chooses a role, and passes the deck to the next player in clockwise order. This player performs the same actions. The choice of the last player is small - only two cards. He takes one for himself, and puts the other face up on the table. When everyone plays, the last participant receives only one card. Therefore, he takes the face-down card discarded at the beginning of the round and makes a choice. The heroes are chosen, and the crowned player, in turn, calls all the characters to the court in order of increasing ranks from 1 to 8.

 If no one has a matching card, the crowned player calls the next one. If the King was named, then the player with this card receives the crown, and then names the characters. The participant with the card of the named character lays it out in front of him. During his turn, he must perform one of two actions:

• take 2 coins
• take 2 quarter cards, keep one for yourself, and put the second one down the deck.

After that, the player can:

• build a quarter To do this, you need to lay out the card from your hand in front of you and pay for it. The cost of the quarter is indicated in the upper left corner. The city has several types of blocks of a certain color. Building a city is a responsible and very difficult business, so it is forbidden to build more than one block in one go. In addition, so that the renewed city does not look too monotonous, it should not have two identical blocks.
• use your character's ability. Some characters get gold for blocks of a certain type. The rank of such characters is located on a circle, the color of which matches the color of the quarters for which you can get a bonus.

 When all players have completed the necessary and desired actions, the round ends. The player with the King card will be the first to choose the role at the beginning of the next round until someone else takes the crown from him.

YOUR MAJESTY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE?...

 When 7 blocks are built in one of the cities, it is considered complete. Well, it's time to look for a quick messenger to deliver the invitation to the King. His Highness will be here any minute, while the current round is finished and the scoring begins:

• The number of victory points is equal to the total value of the blocks in your city.
• If the city has at least one block of each type, you get 3 extra points.
• The player who is the first to finish building the city gets 4 extra points.
• Other players who complete their cities get 2 extra points.
• The effects of special quarters are taken into account.
