DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD GAME GRIZZLED

 On an ordinary summer day, August 2, 1914, five friends stood in the central square of the city and read an announcement about full mobilization. The first world war began for them from that day. The friends decided to go to the front and promised each other that they would always be together, they would support each other, they would definitely survive, and they would all return from the war together. The participants of the cooperative board game The Grizzled are those brave, faithful friends. By the way, the characters of the game are not invented, but existed in reality.

MILITARY WEEKDAYS

 Despite the military theme, in the game The Grizzled players will not shoot, kill, go on the attack and generally fight. The participants of this game will face the everyday life of a soldier, threats, phobias and dangers, living life in the trenches. However, they need to successfully complete certain missions in order to survive together until the end of the war. If one of the characters dies, the whole company loses the game. Unlike most cooperative games, players act and make decisions separately from each other. There is practically no joint discussion to make the right decision.

BEFORE THE GAME

 The main components of the game include: character cards, a deck of challenge cards, language tokens, support tokens, a world map and a monument map. Before the game, participants receive their character. Note that each character has their own luck listed in the upper left corner of the card. For example, this soldier has the ability to remove a threat card: Projectile from the battlefield, but more on that later.

WORLD OR MONUMENT

 Place 25 cards from the Trials deck on top of the World card (with the image of a dove), the remaining 34 cards – on top of the Monument card (with the image of a monument). During the game, these decks will decrease in size. If the players empty the deck of challenge cards and reach the world map, they win the game. If the Morality card deck runs out first and the players reach the Monument card, it means they have lost.

BATTLEFIELD

 Each round of the game, a leader is assigned, who determines how many Challenge cards players will receive in their hands. The goal of the players is to get rid of their cards by placing them on the battlefield. Challenge cards are divided into two types: Threats and Strikes of Fate. The first cards are laid out on the battlefield, and the second cards are personal, the players lay them out in front of themselves. The mission is considered failed if a third identical threat card appears on the table. There are 6 types of threats in the game: Night, Snow, Rain, Gas Mask, Shell and Whistle. The mission will be failed in the following two cases: 3 shells and 3 snow.

PLAYER MOVE

 Players take turns until the mission is completed. During his turn, the player can perform one of the following actions:

• Put a Threat card on the battlefield from your hand, or a Strike of Fate card in front of you.
• Use your luck and remove the threat card from the battlefield. At the same time, the player turns the card of his character face down.
• Give a speech. A player declares a certain threat, and all players except him can discard a card with that threat from his hand.
• Exit the battle. In other words, retreat, but not lose. A player who has left the battlefield can play a support token for his comrade.

 The mission is considered successful if all players have left the battlefield. At the same time, the cards from the battlefield are discarded, and those cards remaining in the hands of the players and in front of them remain in the game. If the mission ended in failure (three identical threats), then the cards from the battlefield are returned to the challenge deck.

MORALE OF FIGHTERS

 With each battle, the morale of the fighters falls. At the end of the round, move as many cards as the players have left in their hands from the morale deck to the challenge deck. Remember that if the morality deck is empty first and you get to the Monument card, it's game over, and a sad one at that.

WHO IS THE GAME FOR?

 We highly recommend the The Grizzled board game to fans of co-op games. Unlike other similar games, for example, Robinson Crusoe, Brothers have simple rules that allow beginners to play them together, but at the same time, it is very difficult to win the game. When we say very difficult, we mean incredibly difficult, so be patient.
