Description
DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD GAME GOLEM
Stacked bookshelves, extracts in beakers, aromas of dried herbs and, of course, molten gold bubbling in a cauldron - this is exactly the atmosphere that prevails in the ordinary dwelling of the rabbi of medieval Prague. Pieces of shapeless clay gradually acquire human features, bending under the experienced hand of the master. The golem's eyes are about to blaze with otherworldly fire, immediately after the word "truth" is written on its forehead, and "God" is placed in its mouth.
The Euro board game in an unusual setting offers us to take part in a similar mystery of clay life creation, will allow us to manage the students of the synagogue and understand the knowledge of the ancient Jewish school.
MAXIMUM WEIRD COMPONENTS AND INTERESTING MECHANICS
What are we used to seeing in Euro games? Units that need to be put on the field, territory control, power struggle, progress and other strengthening of own power to incredible limits. All this is not here, because all possible units are given to the player right at the start, and the main game currency is knowledge, in which the real power is, after all, they know it!
- First, we will have three student meeple who have reached the required skill level to create their own golem. Students will move on their own trajectories, and we will be able to flexibly control these movements for the most part, and the created clay monsters will constantly run ahead or lag behind, traveling around the districts of Prague on their own, and spending a whole bunch of valuable resources to support their own lives. We even have to punish especially naughty creatures for this sometimes... brutally killing them on the spot and getting an instant bonus.
- Secondly, each player will have his own rabbi under control, who walks around the secret laboratory, which gives a huge advantage: moving students or golems, activating or killing the latter, getting resources, money, experience points, the ability to make improvements with discounts and gain knowledge in the book card. The position of the rabbis on the track will determine the sequence of the next move.
- Third, of course, we have an interesting distributor of golem eyes - colored marble balls - our favorite synagogue. It contains five grooves, each of which corresponds to a certain action: taking a ball from the red groove, we get clay tokens according to the number of balls in this tray. With the help of clay, new clay giants are made and body parts of ready-made golems are improved: some of them will give bonuses to the activation of the monster, others will increase its maneuverability - we decide for ourselves what to focus on - an arm, a leg, a head or a torso. The yellow tray similarly affects the creation of powerful artifacts, the blue one affects the acquisition of knowledge, and the remaining two will allow you to duplicate any other action and activate our golems.
STRUCTURE DROPS
- In the beginning was the Word. And this Word is "preparation". We dump a bunch of components on the table and distribute them according to the rules. Move on if you're sure you've done it.
- There is a chaotic movement of the golem population. They will move one way or another, don't try to stop them. However, no, try - maybe something will work out for you.
- It's time for your active decisions - act! You will take turns doing the moves until each player has gone down three times. There are two options to choose from: play the property of the ball from the selected tray or move the master rabbi (available once per round).
- Determination of the order of movement. They put the rabbi last - you will be the last to walk, don't expect more.
- The ability to play on the influence of the character from the card by playing a combination of balls that are drawn there. If it matches the ones that decorate the eyes of the turtle on your tablet - get a bonus!
- Rowing income!
- The last phase is to control the golem for knowledge points. If you don't have enough knowledge, it will affect the victory points, so by the current stage, all expensive clay dolls should be killed without hesitation.
After the fourth round is over, there will be a final tally of points that will determine the winner. Here, this phase is implemented in such a way that the intrigue of who won is maintained until the last moment.
WHO IS THE GAME FOR?
"Golem" is a rather complex and varied board strategy game, which at the initial stage can scare away the audience with voluminous rules. "Well, I don't play like that," beginners will say, "only a great rabbi can remember so many different icons and nuances, and we are never like that." If you are one of those who think in a similar way, don't rush to leave the gaming table upset, but stay for a game or two. The game will appear in a new light as soon as you get to know it better: after all, one tired archmage and vikings will run around the table, fear God, it's not kosher!
