DESCRIPTION OF BOARD GAME PHOTOSYNTHESIS

The sun rises over the forest. Each young leaf eagerly absorbs its healing rays, and mighty old trees cast large, slanting shadows. Which of them will conquer the best territories and become the kings of the forest? You will get the answer by studying photosynthesis in the protected area in the game Photosynthesis .

WHAT IS THE GAME ABOUT?

 The board game Photosynthesis takes players to an open fertile meadow, which will soon become a shady forest. The trees here go from tiny seeds to giants with wide crowns, and along the way they have to fight each other for every precious ray of sunlight to grow faster and bring the player victory points. Exciting strategy with quality components and incredibly beautiful design, and it's also a visual guide to biology!

PREPARATION FOR THE GAME

 The forest is marked by a playing field in the shape of a hex. Participants' tablets are placed nearby. Each player receives a bank of trees and seeds. From the bank, players will buy seeds, trees and improve them for light points. Sunlight counters are set to zero divisions. Next to the tablet is the player's active zone. This places 2 seeds, 4 small trees and 1 medium tree. The sun segment is set to the corner of the field where the circle of the sun is drawn. Markers of the movement of the sun are laid out next to the field. The youngest player takes the token of the first player.

 Four stacks of soil tokens are placed next to the playing field. The forest is surrounded by a river, which not only nourishes the trees, but also washes nutrients from the ground. Soils differ in the shade of green and the number of leaves. At the edge of the forest, trees receive more light, but less nutrients. Players place 2 small trees here. The most fertile soil is in the center of the forest.

GAME PROCESS

 The players task is to give their trees and seeds as much sunlight as possible to complete their cycle and get as many points as possible until the sun completes three circles around the forest. The game has 18 rounds. Each consists of two phases: photosynthesis and life cycle.

PHASE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS

 At the start of their turn, the first player moves a segment of the sun to the next corner of the playing field. The trees in this part of the forest have finally had their share of light, and are beginning to greedily consume it. In this phase, players receive sunlight points for the trees that fall on the light, and mark the result with a counter. The bigger the tree, the more abundant its leaves, and accordingly more solar energy it can receive. If the tree is in the shadow of its older sibling, the player does not receive sunlight points for it. The bigger the tree, the farther it casts a shadow.

LIFE CYCLE PHASE

 Players use sunlight points to perform various actions and receive soil tokens for trees that have completed their life cycle. During his turn, the player can buy and plant seeds, as well as pump seedlings. The cost of seeds and their development is indicated on the player's tablet. After the purchase, the seed is placed next to the player's field. You can plant seeds from any tree. To plant a seed, you need 1 token of light. The taller the tree, the farther the seed can fly.

 When the tree grows, the current figure is returned to the player's tablet, and a new one from the active zone is installed in its place. It takes 4 light tokens to complete the life cycle of a large tree. The player removes the old tree from the field onto the board, and takes the top token from the pile of soil on which the tree grew. Now players can plant new trees on the vacated place. At the end of the round, the first player's token is passed clockwise. If the sun has made a circle, then one movement marker is taken into the box.

WIN THE GAME

 When the sun makes three circles, the game is over. Players score victory points on their land tokens. Additional points are awarded for unused light tokens. The player with the most points is the winner.
