All actions are based on a twenty-sided game die: to succeed, you need to roll a number that does not exceed the value of the corresponding skill.

 The roll low system assumes that a low result is good. If you roll a 1, it's a critical hit, or "dragon," and if you roll a 20, it's a critical miss, or "demon." The initiative system works with cards, and battles involve opportunities for evasion, blocking, and risky retries. The game develops dynamically, with an emphasis on a shared narrative. For complicated or easy situations, there is an optional system of advantages and complications: you roll two dice instead of one and take the better or worse result.
