DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD GAME CODENAMES: DUET

 Although spies must have nerves of steel, they are still human. Tired of the exhausting confrontation, leading secret intelligence agencies decided to conduct a joint operation to deal with an enemy of a global scale. Meet the sequel to the legendary Codenames - Codenames: Duet!

 This is a cooperative game designed specifically for two, but the spy world is always open to cooperation, so you can save the planet with four people. 400 new word cards are waiting for you, which can be mixed with the cards of the original game. The gallery of secret agents has been replenished with new faces.

BEFORE THE GAME

 Players stand facing each other. Word cards are laid out on the table in the shape of a 5x5 playing field. A stack of agent tiles and an assassin tile are placed nearby.

MISSION MAP: THE WHOLE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH

 If in the original game our main goal was a local victory over the enemy organization, then in Duet we have to carry out various missions all over the globe. Each mission is marked on the secret map with a circle. Next to it is the city we will go to, and two numbers - the conditions of the mission. The first indicates the number of moves, the second - the number of permissible mistakes. Civilian tokens are converted into move tokens.

THE STAKE IS BIGGER THAN LIFE

 The sides of the key card represent different parts of the city: the west or the east, the old city or its new district. The key card is placed on a stand so that each player can see only their side. On each side, 9 agents are marked in green with which you can establish contact. If in the original there is only 1 assassin on each side, then in Codenames Duet there are 3 of them at once.

EXPLOIT OF A SCOUT

 The goal of the game: to establish contact with 15 agents. Players take turns saying code words and guessing the location of the agents. Unlike Codenames, we can make as many attempts as we want on our turn, regardless of the number in the code word, as long as we guess correctly. So, we have an unlimited number of attempts and a mission map - practically the whole world is in our hands, but on the other hand, a limited number of turns... Hmm, this is getting interesting.

LET'S GET IN TOUCH

 The life of a spy is full of surprises, and anything can happen at any moment in the world of secret agents:

• If a player reveals an agent, the agent tile is placed on the appropriate space, facing the player who made the contact.
• If a player has discovered a civilian, a civilian token is placed on this section, facing the player. The position of the token shows that on this player's side, a civilian is hiding behind the word, but on his partner's side, it can be anyone: another civilian, an agent, or an assassin. If another player encounters an agent here, his image is placed under the civilian token, facing the player who made the contact. If the second player also encounters a civilian, another civilian token is placed on the section. Both tokens must cover the word, so that no one else will guess it.
• As in the original, a player can use up all of their guesses and stop guessing. Then they take a token and place it in front of them, bird-side up.
• Meeting the killer still doesn't bode well. Any contact with him means certain death and defeat.

LAST CHANCE

 If, after using all the turn tokens, players are unable to establish contact with all 15 agents, they no longer receive any clues and base their guesses solely on the information available. Encountering a civilian or assassin results in defeat.

 Once you have guessed all the agents on your side, you can inform your partner and stop giving clues. It's time to focus all your efforts on finding the remaining agents on his side.

THE KILLER TRIO AND SPY SECRETS

 It seems that there are too many killers, but this is their weak point. When a killer works alone, he can hide anywhere, but if it is a group of hired killers, then they have to act together, following a certain scheme:

• the first of the killers is a killer from the other player;
• the second killer is a civilian from the other player's side;
• The third killer is an agent from another player.

 Use this advantage to avoid encountering a civilian and an assassin. It is forbidden to report the location of civilians and assassins to your partner.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

 When communication with all agents is established, the mission is considered completed and marked with a dot on the map. Players summarize, assessing their professionalism and the effectiveness of teamwork. Well, now we can start the next one. We go to a new city, following the lines on the secret map.
