Description
DESCRIPTION OF ABOARD GAME ANDROID: NETRUNNER LCG REVISED CORE SET
Cyberpunk fans rarely get the opportunity to enjoy such a stylish and bright spectacle as the asymmetric card duel game "Android: Netrunner". Richard Garfield (author of MTG) managed to create something completely new and long-term consolidate his creation in the TOP-40 best board games in the world according to BoardGameGeek.
Here is an updated version of the basic set, released in 2012. All cards in it are legal, ie. are allowed for competitive matches and can be used in tournaments and world championships. As we get closer to the cyberpunk future, illustrations have become more modern.
Despite the fact that there is no localization of the game, the number of its fans in different parts of the world is growing to this day. Because the non-plot text on the maps is extremely clear and easy to understand, even if you do not know English well. Literary content of the Android universe: Netrunner will tell a lot of interesting things and often make you smile. The rules have been translated into many languages, and an active community of players will always tell you how to act in difficult moments.
THE PLOT
The events unfold in the common universe of "Netrunner" and the game "New Angeles". For the same reason, you may come across maps of familiar characters and familiar art. In the distant future, humanity inhabited other planets and even built an elevator to the moon, or as it is called - "Beanstalk". Such breakthroughs became possible only thanks to the endless power and money of megacorporations, which practically replaced the concept of the state for people, as well as the replacement of human labor with cheaper labor of androids and clones. Poverty, unemployment and impunity of the influential of this world causes an uprising. In the world of digital technology and information networks, only runners are able to expose and disrupt the secret dirty plans of corporations. But who said hackers have good goals?
HOW TO PLAY
The first player must choose one of the 4 available megacorporations and a specific unit with unique skills, and then make a deck, mixing a number of cards of important projects. His opponent, who chose the role of a hacker, joins one of the three groups and chooses his avatar, which also has unique abilities. The deck should be collected from the cards of your faction and neutral, adding a few cards from allied factions. In the base deck, it is enough to mix all the cards of your faction with neutral cards of your party (corporation or hacker).
The purpose of the corporation is to credit data projects worth 7 points. To do this, place the data card on the table face down, protect it from burglary and spend the specified amount of money and action. The corporation wins if the effects of cards, traps and ice (protective programs that prevent the hacker from accessing data) force the hacker to throw more cards out of his hand than he has.
The hacker 's goal is to access and steal data cards. To do this, he uses programs to break the "ice" that protects the corporation's servers, and looks at the cards in the deck, hangs, the hand of the corporation or just on the table. All the projects he finds instantly become his winning points. A hacker will win if the deck runs out at the beginning of the corporation.
At the beginning, players take 5 cards from the deck and can decide to replace their "starting hand" once. Then comes the corporation.
In its course, the corporation is obliged to take a card from the deck and perform three actions. Actions can be spent on making money, choosing cards, putting new cards on the table or using the abilities of active cards. The deck, the rebound, the cards in his hand and the cards on the table are all considered "servers" that a hacker can break if he passes all the protective "ice" in his path.
Then begins the move of the hacker, in which he must perform four actions. He can also pick up cards, money, play effects and install new hacking equipment. Even for the action, he can declare a breakdown of one of the servers and try to pass the "ice". If he has the money and the necessary software to hack, he "passes" to the next, if not - the "ice" is trying to harm him or end the hack.
What's next? And then the continuous struggle between the desperate loner and the bureaucratic machine. The corporation will try to scan to give the hacker a "label" (determine his condition) and damage or destroy his programs, and he will in turn destroy the server and run viruses there. In trying to get rid of them, the corporation may gain a bad reputation and then every hacker hack will be funded by outsiders. In particularly tricky traps, a fugitive can even get brain damage, which reduces his hand limit forever.
Each game will be rich in interesting twists and turns because different factions play very differently. Weyland Financial Holding (link to the Weyland-Yutani Corporation from the Alien Series) is not ashamed to physically destroy a hacker and use illegal "ice", as well as increase their power during the game. Haas-bioroid experts know how to confuse a hacker, forcing him to lose action and get brain damage. But their protection can be overcome simply by spending time. Jinteki is known for its traps, random games and the ability and ability to see the future in its deck. NBN journalists can easily "label" the hacker, reset his account and destroy his connections, and their "ice" will take money from the hacker instead of protection.
However, the fugitives have what can be called a trump card up their sleeve. Idealists will easily break any ice, because they have not only more expensive but better equipment. Crime will rob a corporation and often steal cards from hand, and anarchists force the corporation to dump everything and easily get into the archives.
FEATURES OF THE GAME
- Complete asymmetry. Completely different cards are used to compile hacker and corporation decks. Playing for a hacker and a corporation are almost different games, they have different tasks and game mechanics in front of you. The corporation places cards on the table indoors, bluffing and trapping. She has less action on the move and money, is forced to hide data cards, defend, plan ahead and be in constant tension about the threat of burglary. The hacker, as the attacking party, has more action and money, but constantly suffers from a lack of information and risks falling into a carefully planned trap.
- In the basic set and deluxe add-on, you buy a set that has everything for both sides of the game, ie essentially for two players. It's also nice to know that Android: Netrunner cards are rarely illegal to play in tournaments and championships. At the moment, these are just a few cards from the old base set and a couple from the data packs.
- There are no boosters, rare or strong cards in this game. All updates are released in deluxe add-ons, as well as small data packs, in which the list and number of cards are known in advance. The strength of a card is regulated by its activation cost or the amount of exposure required to take it into the deck, and is combined with the effects of all other cards issued. Promotional cards played in tournaments differ only in pictures. Therefore, fortune and the purchase of cards do not give the player an advantage over others, everything is fair and transparent.
When studying add-on maps and the basic set, a large number of game mechanics, strategies and counter-strategies can impress even an experienced fan of board games. In a brief overview, do not fit all the depth that will open up to those who are ready to enter this anti-utopian, but such an exciting future…
