The Vikings of the North Sea are going through the golden years of their era. In the role of the great Viking warriors, the players seek to win the favor of their Leader by staging attacks on unsuspecting settlements. Players must assemble a team, prepare provisions, and travel to distant lands for prey - gold, iron, and cattle. They only get glory in battle, even if you have to wrest it from the hands of Valkyrie. Summon your warriors, invasion seasons begin!

Vikings of the North Sea is a board game for 2-4 players, which tells us about the difficult weekdays of warlike Vikings, who have to go out to sea on their drakkars in search of prey. They attack coastal villages, fortresses and cities, taking away supplies, food and resources from the locals there. On their return to their home village, the Vikings usually carry a large portion of their prey to their leader, who, instead of endowing them with his affection.

It is one of the first board games designed by designer Shem Phillips, a big fan of Scandinavian themes, and released by young New Zealand publishing house Garfill Games. And the incredibly wonderful illustrations for the Vikings of the North Sea were made by artist Mihajlo Dimitrievski, widely known for his works in many other board games, including: Game of Thrones: Hand of the King, Valeria. Card Kingdoms, Rise to Nobility.

His drawings are dynamic, unique in style and vividly reflect the atmosphere of the game itself!

How to play it?

In the center of the table, players lay out a playing field depicting a Viking native village, the sea, as well as an opposite shore with many different cities, fortresses and villages. Each village has several random resources (cattle, iron, gold). From the deck of tiles of gifts three top cards are opened, and players receive 2 silver coins, a player's field, a starting worker and a ship's card. In addition, players put their chips on the track of the armament and on the track of the Valkyrie. Preparing for the game will take minutes, and now you are ready to go on a real adventure!

In his turn, the player must choose what he will do: work in the village, or raid. In the first embodiment, the player takes his worker and places him on one of the houses of the village, not yet blocked to other workers. Then, following the effect of this building, the player chooses another building from which he takes the worker to his pool and receives a bonus from the second building. The effects of buildings are different. Here you can buy gold, give a gift to the leader, collect provisions or hire yourself a team of new characters: good archers, strong berserker and other belligerent and brave Vikings. It is important to plan your actions strategically here as you prepare for the raids, as you will need not only warriors, but also provisions and gold.

Once you have enough commands and provisions on the way, you can raid an enemy settlement. To do this, place your worker in a designated field near the settlement, pay the required amount of provisions and gold in the total stock, and then roll the specified number of cubes. Make a throw with the power of your Vikings and you will get a number that shows the War Force of your raid. The box next to the settlement indicates how many points you will receive for this robbery. Then remove new workers and resources from the settlement. If in this settlement there was a Valkyrie token, then you lose one of the Vikings for every such token (Valkyries, as it should, take the Vikings straight to Valhalla). However, for every warrior who received a heroic death during a raid and met Valkyrie, the player moves his chip up the Valkyrie track. At the end of the game it will bring him extra winning points.

Thus, by plundering settlements, improving weapons, meeting with Valkyrie and presenting gifts to the leader, each of the Viking leaders tries to score as many victory points as possible.

The game ends with one of three conditions:

- The cards in the gift deck are over.

- There is only one not looted fortress on the playing field.

- There are no Valkyries left in the game.

After that, each player can complete another move, followed by the final calculation of the winning points.

What is the highlight of this game?

The Vikings of the North Sea, a unique board game in which many Euro mechanics are interwoven without losing the atmosphere, charm and sense of adventure. In addition, the authors of the game came up with excellent mechanics of the general pool of workers. Each player can have only one worker, black, gray or white. The bottom line is that the gray worker is an improved version of black, and white, respectively, is better than gray. In the work phase, white mites bring much more useful resources and effects than gray ones. And those in turn are more useful than blacks. All this information in the form of graphic icons is indicated on the playing field. Everything is simple, convenient and clear.
