DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD GAME PORTA NIGRA

 The board game Porta Nigra ( Translated from Latin "Black Gate") is a strong historical Euro game about the construction of an ancient gate in Northern Rome, the residence of Emperor Octavian - Augustus Treverorum (now the German city of Trier). The game was created in 2015 by German developers Wolfgang Kramer and Michael Kiesling.

GAME PROCESS

 The game Porta Nigra (Porta Nigra) will take the participants to the beginning of the IV century, to the German lands on the other side of the Alps, where they will be engaged in the construction of buildings in the northern residence of the Roman emperor. Players will play cards and perform actions that boil down to laying bricks on various construction sites. Bricks can be obtained with the help of the main builder, who rides a horse through the quarters of Augusta Treverorum. The game lasts two rounds (or three when playing together). Intermediate scoring takes place between rounds.

PLAYER MOVE

 During his turn, the player first replenishes the bricks in the market and lays out new building and glory cards, and then plays an action card from his hand. The number of torches on the map indicates how many action points the player has. Icons on the map are available actions. Each action can only be used once.

PURCHASE OF BRICKS

 The player can buy a brick of the specified color in the corresponding store. Black brick is the cheapest, it costs one coin, and white is the most expensive, it costs as much as five coins, but it can be used instead of bricks of any color. Moving between shops costs one coin, the builder always moves clockwise.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

 The player can build a house in the block where his builder is located by choosing one of the construction plots. He takes from his stock as many bricks of the same color as indicated on the construction site and places them on the site. To mark the ownership of a building, the player places a Roman token of his color on it. After construction, the player receives victory points and a map of the building, an icon that matches the color of the brick or the type of built house.

INFLUENCE, TORCH AND COINS

 A player may take an influence token. Influence tokens are used to buy glory cards, build buildings, and move Roman tokens from the supply to the play area. The player can also take a torch token and a coin.

INTERMEDIATE CALCULATION OF POINTS

 Between rounds, players receive victory points and coins for all the bricks laid out in the amphitheater, basilica, city wall, and black gate blocks. In the game of three and four, the amount of bricks is divided by two.

DETERMINATION OF THE WINNER

 After two (or three when playing with two) rounds, the final scoring begins. The game may end earlier if there are no bricks left in the reserve or if one of the players has built fifteen buildings, exposing all the Romans of their color. Players receive victory points for sets of different building cards, for glory cards and for resources in stock - Roman tokens, influence tokens, torches, coins and bricks. Then they get points for the most bricks in each of the blocks. The player who scored more points is declared the winner.
