DESCRIPTION OF BOARD GAME MARE NOSTRUM: EMPIRES

 In the Mediterranean, five powerful ancient empires are waging a fierce war. Players have to lead one of them and lead to victory. At your disposal are not only fast ships and brave legions, but also legendary heroes! Like Julius Caesar, you will wage wars, build mighty cities and majestic temples, trade in fragrant oils, fine wine, fine ceramics, and even gladiators. "Mare Nostrum: Empires" is a strategy of confrontation between five empires, where there are battles, unexpected alliances and miracles.

BEFORE THE GAME STARTS

 The playing field of the Mediterranean, divided into provinces, is laid out on the table. Tablets of leadership and miracles, tokens of goods, markets, coins, cities and temples are placed nearby. Players choose their empire and receive a corresponding tablet.

 Rome is led by the god-like Caesar, Greece by the legendary military leader and orator Pericles, Egypt by the charming and deadly Cleopatra, Carthage by the sworn enemy of Rome and the great general Hannibal, Babylon by the righteous Hammurabi. Each player then receives troops, ships, fortresses, and control tokens and places them on the starting provinces as shown on their boards.

 Each empire has a different level of achievement in trade, culture and military arts. Leadership tokens are placed on the corresponding tablet. So, for example, the most cultural are Greece and Egypt with IV indicators. It's a little surprising that Rome, as the successor of Greece, has a culture index of I. Well, apparently it's in decline here (smile) and we have a chance to revive its former greatness. 5 random cards are placed on the Heroes and Wonders board. This is the market where you will hire heroes for service and also acquire all kinds of miracles.

GAME PROCESS

 Emperors have four ways to victory: build pyramids, get legendary heroes or wonders of the world at their disposal, capture capitals and cities, become the first in trade, culture or military affairs. Each turn consists of the following phases: gathering and trading resources, construction, movement and battles, determining the leader.

• In the resource gathering phase, you get goods and coins from controlled caravans and cities. Next, players lay out and buy resources at the rate of the exchange token. Purchased resources are placed on the Empire tablet.
• In the construction phase, the cultural leader chooses a player to go first. For construction, you need a set of different coins or goods. At the end of the phase, the player has a few coins left, and the unused resources go to the reset.
• In the movement and war phase, the first player is determined by the war leader. Players move ships and troops. If the troops or ships of the empires are in the same province or sea, a battle begins. Miracles and heroes have a strong influence on the course of the battle. White dice are used for land battles, blue dice are used for naval battles. The outcome of the battle is determined by a roll. Captured houses can be destroyed or occupied. After mastering a province, you get its caravans, markets, cities, and temples.
• In the leadership phase, the leaders are determined according to the indicators on the tablet. During the game you can make deals, negotiate, keep or break deals. The situation in the Mediterranean can change at any minute!
