Description

DESCRIPTION OF THE BOARD GAME KITARA

Traditions testify that in the 12th-15th centuries near the Great Lakes of Africa there was a powerful Kitara Empire, which later disintegrated into small rival kingdoms. You act as the rulers of kingdoms who dream of reuniting a once-great empire.

Four powerful clans compete with each other. Savannahs will provide your people with food, and ancient ruins that have mystical powers will help revive a glorious past. A desperate battle for territory and the prosperity of your kingdom awaits you.

THE FIRST SWALLOW OF AFROFANTASY

Kitara is a game made in an unusual setting called "Afrofantasy". This is a fantasy inspired by African folk tales, with its unique flavor. Antiquity also contributed to the revival of the Empire - in the hot African savannahs you can see majestic centaur cheetahs with lush Afro hairstyles.

The world of Kitara is also inhabited by huge white rhinoceroses, legendary heroes, wise chieftains and brave warriors dressed in bright clothing. This is a real breath of fresh air for fantasy fans.

It took more than 10 years to create the amazing universe. You can read more about this in the designer's note, which also describes the history of the Kitara Empire. The author of the wonderful illustrations was Miguel Coimbra, who brought the Little World and 7 Wonders to life for us.

GAME PROCESS

We are going to the very heart of Africa! You have two playing fields at your disposal - a large one for 2-4 participants and a small one for two. They depict the Great Lakes, savannahs and ruins.

Each participant receives figurines and chips of the chosen color, as well as a kingdom tablet. Next to the tablet is a map of the Zero Era. You will add new cards to it, expanding your kingdom.

Players choose one of two decks of cards and form a stack of 5 epochs. 6 cards are opened from the deck and laid out in a row. The party will continue until the 5th era map is opened. Feat tokens are placed in a fabric bag, yellow as burnt savannah grass.

During the game, we will earn points, which are noted on the prosperity track. Prosperity Tokens look like real magical amulets.

Participants walk clockwise. The chip of the first player is made as a traditional African mask. During his turn, the player performs the following actions:

  • expands the kingdom - chooses one of the face-up cards, puts it in his kingdom and replenishes the row of face-up cards with a new card from the deck.
  • makes a call - places new meeples, which are indicated in the second row of the map, on the sections of the field where there are already his figures. Heroes mounted on huge animals will perform feats for the prosperity of your kingdom, Afro-clad warriors will mine the savannahs for food for their people, and cheetah centaur chieftains will skillfully harness the power of ancient ruins.
  • moves troops. If there is a corresponding symbol in the third row of the card, then you can move the pieces. 1 symbol – 1 movement. If your heroes, leaders and warriors are near enemy figures, you attack them. Each figure gives +1 to attack. Heroes on huge animals allow you to draw a feat token from the bag, which is placed number-down next to the kingdom tablet. The loser retreats to the nearest area with his figures.
  • contributes to the prosperity of the kingdom. The player moves a prosperity marker for each symbol in the fourth row of his cards. If your four-legged leader managed to occupy the ruins area, you get 2 extra points. The feat token with the highest number is placed face down on the kingdom tablet. Others return to the pouch.
  • feeds his people. Each warrior figure in the savanna allows you to feed (leave) 2 cards of your kingdom. Other cards are discarded, and the figures indicated on them are taken from the field to the reserve. Cards with a spike symbol do not need to be fed.

After the 5th age card has been revealed, the participants play the same number of turns and make the last turn. Players receive 2 points for each kingdom card and additional points for feat tokens. The contestant with the best kingdom becomes the new King of the Kitara Empire!
