 alea was founded as a new label at Ravensburger in 1999. Each of their boxed games is numbered in the order of publication, making it possible to view the Big Box Series, Alea Revised Medium Box Series, Alea Big Box Series, Alea Medium Box Series, Alea Small Box Series, and Alea Very Small Box Series.

 In April 2019 (Germany)/September 2019 (North America), alea launched a new line similar in size to its old large line, but with a new artistic aesthetic and numbering system. The first game released in this series was an updated combination of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas Royale. German press coverage of this suggests that this new series could be a promising design for Alea games, but it's not entirely clear if that's the case.
